The higher education racket is being exposed in America as diminishing standards, collapsing public trust, and a cult-like, often unlawful devotion to DEI-ideology is pushing their mid-20th century model past the point of breaking.

For several generations going to a premier public or private university provided a smooth path to success for most Americans.

Sure, plenty of people made money by starting businesses—and a handful of entrepreneurs became monumentally wealthy—but for most Americans looking to get going on a good, high-paying, rewarding career, going to college was the path to success.

Now that path isn’t guaranteed and hasn’t been for decades. Employers have begun to view degrees from once prestigious schools, even advanced degrees, as irrelevant or a marginal advantage at best.

These overproduced pseudo elites—many of whom are high on self-esteem but short on what they see as an equivalent paycheck—constitute the foot soldiers of the angry, fanatical DSA class.

The hordes of frustrated college grads will undoubtedly shape American politics in coming years. But what of the colleges and universities that produced them?

They could be in for a massive shakeup.

That’s what I concluded after reading a report in the New York Post Tuesday that highlighted how even after the Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard Supreme Court decision prohibited using race in college admissions, many elite universities are gaming the system to ensure that they continue to meet stealth diversity quotas.

They’ve done so by flushing virtually all measures of academic excellence down the toilet for the sake of DEI.

The New York Post reported that Mission High School in San Francisco has a staggering 45% acceptance rate to the prestigious University of California, Berkeley, even though only a tiny number of students at the school rated as proficient in math and English according to statewide tests.

“Only 17% of Mission High’s 11th graders scored proficient or above in English, along with a shocking 6% in math on the 2025 state assessment exam, the lowest of any school in the San Francisco Unified School District—which averaged 59% and 43%, respectively,” the Post reported.

Those numbers would be concerning for any school, let alone one that is sending nearly half its students to the state’s premier public university.

Funny enough, the San Francisco Chronicle ran a story on Mission High School in 2024, praising it as some kind of model for how an institution with mostly black and Hispanic students became a one-way ticket to some of the nation’s top universities.

Without ever digging into exactly what magic formula for success the school had discovered, the Chronicle reported that the “vast majority of 12th graders at the school” send out multiple applications to colleges and universities across California and just wait “for the hundreds of acceptances to flood their email inboxes.”

Then the Chronicle, without a hint of irony or suspicion, claimed that the school “is proof that with the resources, focus and determination to make the students believe in themselves, and a lot of hard work, the odds against these kids shift.”

The reality is that the odds were ever in their favor. That was especially the case following the state’s 2020 decision to drop standardized testing in admissions to promote “access and equity” as some called it.

Now standardized testing—especially the SAT—has its flaws, no doubt. But it’s hard to pull off mass-scale “meritocratic” admissions without any kind of objective metric to evaluate students.

So, what happens to the Mission High School students when they arrive at Cal and other schools?

They fail at a shockingly high frequency and wash out. But not before dragging down the overall quality of the student body.

What the University of California is doing is essentially picking names out of a statistically diverse phonebook, dumping them into the school, and hoping everything will work out.

The fact that they are even attempting to pull off this watering down of already watered down student quality says a lot.

Many prestigious schools rely on their reputation as much as their current high-quality faculty. They owe their power as elite institutional sorting factories to the accomplishments of past luminaries—more than a few of whom they’ve recently, ruthlessly canceled—and the fact that they are expected to have a student body of the best and brightest.

They know that for quite some time a college education has been a sorting mechanism for intelligence and competence. If you got in, you had met some kind of standard. If you got out with a degree, you had a ticket to an upper-middle-class job or better.

But what Americans are catching on to is that the reputation of many colleges now often comes before the excellence. Legitimate research and innovation are being crowded out by the ideological nonsense and patronage blob. DEI comes first, excellence is an afterthought.

The legacy media has spun a narrative that higher education is suffering because the mean Trump administration is threatening them. But they have it backwards. President Donald Trump has threatened them with lawsuits and defunding because they’ve already lost the confidence of the American people.

What’s remarkable is that it took so long to pull the plug.

And it does seem like the higher ed bubble is truly bursting, even if they don’t want to admit it. They are paying the price for their arrogance and commitment to DEI, which they thought would sustain them with the changing racial landscape of America.

But even in blue, racially diverse California the people hate affirmative action. And by pushing out talented students in favor of “diverse” ones who can’t hack it they are killing what made them appealing to begin with.

Many able, ambitious young Americans will increasingly find their way without attending “elite” universities that may have pre-screened them by the color of their skin.

That’s eventually going to grow into a serious long-term problem for schools reliant on reputation, alumni, and public support.

What it means is that higher education may look radically different in the coming decade as there is a great re-sorting. Elite universities aren’t going away. They will continue to feed into the vast array of institutions that rely on them, much to their detriment.

Yet, under the pressure of increasing failure, new institutions could certainly rise to replace them as they capitalize on the natural flow of talent. Old, lagging ones may under great external pressure and a fair amount of intervention be put on a better path.

One way or another, change is coming. The current path is unsustainable.

A Chinese national allegedly voted in the 2024 election by impersonating another Chinese national and then reporting that person to authorities, according to the Justice Department.

In an alleged voter fraud case with a strange twist, Yupeng Sun, 33, was charged with one count of fraudulent voter registration and one count of fraudulent voting, the Justice Department announced Wednesday. Sun faces removal and appeared in federal court in Boston Wednesday.

The case comes in the backdrop of the Trump administration pointing out the scope of noncitizen voting in the United States.

A Census Bureau analysis released on Tuesday claimed at least 24,000 noncitizens voted in the 2020 election, while another 32 million votes have not yet been analyzed.

Separately, the Department of Homeland Security in July said 28,000 noncitizens were registered to vote in 25 states that shared data with the federal government. The department also estimated that 256,463 potential noncitizens were registered to vote in four states—California, New Jersey, Nevada, and Pennsylvania—that had not cross-checked voter rolls with its database.

Federal prosecutors allege that on Oct. 10, 2024, Sun submitted an online voter registration form through the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s website, impersonating another Chinese national and a legal permanent resident in Massachusetts.

On Oct. 31, Sun allegedly impersonated the same individual and submitted an early voting ballot at Malden City Hall for the 2024 election.

In April and May of this year, according to the Justice Department, Sun allegedly submitted several anonymous tips to Homeland Security Investigations as well as U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, claiming the other Chinese national “illegally voted in the 2024 U.S. presidential election” and “is not a U.S. citizen but a permanent resident.”

The charges of fraudulent registration and fraudulent voting each provide for a sentence of up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000. Deportation could come after a sentence is served.

In a separate case last year, federal prosecutors charged a Chinese national who was a student at the University of Michigan for illegally voting. He fled the country and avoided prosecution.

Some states have also reported noncitizen voting in recent years. New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill in July admitted to having 6,600 noncitizens on its voter rolls, and of those, 400 had cast votes. A 2025 Ohio audit found 167 noncitizens voted between 2018 and 2024.

Florida’s gun owners get to celebrate the Second Amendment wins that happened during last night’s primary elections.

Hello, this is Victor Davis Hanson for the Daily Signal. 

The anticipation of the November midterms is mounting every day, and the polls show that, typically, in midterm elections, the in-party in the White House, i.e., the Republicans and Donald Trump, are going to lose seats. 

And because the House is so close anyway, with a five- or six-seat Republican margin, it might be even easier. And so the Democrats are ecstatic. They look at the statistics and historical context and say 39 out of the last 41 midterm elections, the in-party lost seats in the midterms.  

And this will be no exception because Donald Trump is polling around 40%, and the Democratic generic poll is 5% to 6% ahead of the Republicans. 

The Republicans counter, “Well, maybe it’ll be different. Who can predict what Donald Trump will do or say? Who can predict what’ll happen in Iran in the next 60 days? There might be a revolution. Gas prices could drop.” 

There are seats that will accrue to the Republicans because of the Supreme Court ruling on racial gerrymandering and the preponderance of red states. Maybe five or six more red states will gerrymander than blue states.  

And, of course, the Republicans were given a gift by this radical Democratic Socialists of America takeover of the Democratic Party and the crazy things that these candidates up for election in the midterms have said in their past. 

And then finally, the Republicans say, “Well, we have more money, at least in the PACs and the Trump funds.” 

But I think they’re missing something because we haven’t heard from the Republicans any strategy, and the time is getting close. 

What do I mean by that? 

It seems to me that it doesn’t work just to trash the socialists. They should be trashed, but there has to be more than that.  

So I would start first with a Contract With America and say, “We are going to do this, accomplish this in the White House and in the Congress over the next two years.” 

And I would say: 

We are going to complete the work at the border, and we’re going to continue to deport people who are not here legally, especially criminals. And then we are going to hold the bureaucracy and the university accountable for the racial prejudice and bias that’s intrinsic to DEI. 

We’ve already said to countries that receive massive U.S. remittances, sent from people here often illegally and subsidized by the federal government, that they will have a tax on them. We’ve started with 1%, and that may climb. 

We’re now pumping the most natural gas and oil in the history of any nation since the onset of fossil fuels. We’re going to continue and increase that. 

One thing we are going to do that no one has really done for the last 30 years, we are going to address the debt. We are going to put a hold on federal spending, and we’re going to take a look at entitlements because we are now not just $31 trillion to $32 trillion in debt, but the debt is increasing geometrically, not arithmetically. And we can envision that if something is not done, it will be up to $40 trillion. Already, the interest is over $1 billion a day, and it’s larger per annum than the defense budget. 

A second thing that we’re going to do, it’s not just that we’re going to have a Contract With America, we’re going to tell you what we’ve done. 

And first of all, crime has dropped 70%. It is at a historic low. Washington, D.C., the political capital of the world, was not safe. Its monuments were decrepit. The streets were dirty. We sent in federal troops working with local police, and we can say now that Washington, believe it or not, is one of the safest large cities in America, given crime statistics. And its monuments are in the process of being refurbished, cleansed, and are sparkling. And we have even bigger projects at the White House and the Reflecting Pool to make people proud of their national capital. 

We all talk about affordability, but we forget something. Even with the war in Iran, and even with a temporary spike in oil prices, this administration has an annual inflation rate during its first term of 1.9%. It’s about 2.5%, and it may climb to 3%. But we are still way below the average 5% to 5.1% each year on average of the prior administration. 

We talk about affordability in terms of housing. Typically in America, 62% to 67% of the population owns their own home. It’s 65% right now. The problem is not that people cannot buy homes. The problem is they can’t buy homes in blue states and urban environments. We’re going to work on that, but let’s be clear. There has not been a sudden drop in homeownership. 

The border is closed. It’s not just closed. Illegal immigration has ceased to exist. Ninety-nine percent of the border crossings are legal. There is no illegal immigration. We are controversially but lawfully and humanely sending back people from that influx, 10 million to 12 million, that came in under Joe Biden without any audit, without vaccinations, and without any knowledge of who they were, at a time when we would never allow American citizens to do so. 

We were, after all, expelling 8,500 service members, some of them combat veterans, from our military by the Biden decrees that they had to have a COVID-19 vaccination and mRNA experimental vaccinations, where we didn’t even require that of the people who fled from countries across the border into the United States. 

We should also say that South America, Latin America, and the Caribbean are not going communist. There’s not a pink tide. During the Obama administration, about 75% of those countries were heading left. John Kerry, the secretary of state under Barack Obama, said that there is no more Monroe Doctrine.  

There is a Monroe Doctrine now, and almost all of South America, Latin America, and the Caribbean is pro-American and conservative except three or four countries. 

And the Chinese are not controlling the entries and exits of the Panama Canal, and there’s not a communist client state doing the work of China and also Russia in Venezuela, exporting terror and drugs to North America. 

Finally, they need to say something about the dangers of socialism. It’s not just that we have a Contract With America of what we’re going to do that brings normality back to the country, and it’s not just that we can tell you what we have done that has improved lives.  

We’re also going to tell you about this socialism. 

Start off  with the idea that there really isn’t a socialist system that is democratic and liberal. The USSR during the Cold War was called the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Nazi Germany, the Nazi term was an acronym for the National Socialist German Workers’ Party. So socialism is a euphemism for totalitarianism. 

Every time a socialist is elected, the first thing that happens is they bump into resistance, and when they bump into resistance, they become authoritarian. 

One last thing to remember about our opponents: They are not the party of workers. They’re the party of the downwardly mobile, college-educated, formerly upper-middle class, and a new phenomenon of first- and second-generation immigrants coming from failed states, mostly because of socialism, that upon arrival are attacking the United States. 

And finally, Hasan Piker, Zohran Mamdani, Ro Khanna, Ilhan Omar, Dr. El-Sayed in Michigan, they’re not poor, they’re not middle class. They’re very, very wealthy, just like all socialist architects throughout history.  

Mamdani comes from the 1% in Uganda as an immigrant.  

Hasan Piker is a multimillionaire who drives a Porsche. Ro Khanna’s children have trust funds with ownership of golf courses in their names. 

They drive a $200,000 Range Rover. Ilhan Omar says she’s worth $30 million. 

This is an elite group of people who are using us as their lab rats. 

Again, if the Republicans can talk about what they did, what they plan to do, and what the alternatives are, they can still win.

Rep. Jimmy Gomez, D-Calif., a good friend of former Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., who was forced to resign from the chamber due to sexual assault and rape allegations, is now under a House Ethics investigation himself over alleged sexual misconduct.

The committee launched a probe into the Democrats’ Deputy Whip regarding allegations of sexual misconduct on Monday.

Gomez, founder of the Congressional Dads Caucus, admitted on Monday that he made “personal mistakes outside” his marriage, but that the acts were “consensual in nature.”

“Although my actions were consensual in nature and haven’t violated the law or House Ethics rules,” Gomez added, “that doesn’t diminish the impact that these mistakes have made on those I care about the most.”

However, the attorneys for one of his accusers posted a statement on Wednesday contradicting Gomez’s claim.

“Contrary to Representative Gomez’s assertion in his statement, his actions were not ‘consensual in nature’ with respect to our client,” the attorneys Lisa Banks and Sarah Nesbitt said in a statement posted on X on Wednesday.

The woman also spoke with the Ethics Committee “about her experience of sexual harassment and assault by Representative Jimmy Gomez,” the statement added.

Additional allegations, if proven true, could further raise questions about Gomez’s past conduct.

Gomez, who consistently referred to President Donald Trump as a pedophile and even released a statement claiming that Trump’s name does not belong next to a child’s bank account in response to the president’s announcement of the “Trump Accounts,” has also been linked to a 2023 incident in which he allegedly kissed a Democratic staffer two decades younger than him.

According to the New York Post, the incident involved the now 51-year-old congressman allegedly “making out, French kissing a Democratic staffer outside a backyard party hosted by Swalwell to celebrate the start of the August congressional recess.”

The aide, as noted by the Post, “was sitting on the hood of the car and they were going at it,” according to a source who was smoking a cigarette in front of Swalwell’s home about a mile from the Capitol.

“They were down the street a little bit. But it wasn’t that discreet,” the source continued.

A second source, who was waiting for an Uber, recalled that “someone pointed it out and it took me a second to recognize who it was.”

A spokesperson for Gomez, however, told the outlet the accounts were “not true” and the interaction between him and the young female staffer “didn’t happen.”
